On October 27, 2016, the inaugural meeting and the 2016 annual meeting of Jiangsu Law Society Law Research Societywas held in Southeast University successfully. The meeting was organized by Jiangsu Law Society Law Research Society, undertaken by the law school of Southeast University. The opening ceremony was chaired by Prof. Meng Hongzhi, the professor of Law School in SEU and the director of the Research Center for Rule of Law in Southeast University.

At the opening ceremony, Prof. Meng Hongzhi gave a brief report on the preparatory work of the Legislative Research Conference. Hu Daocai, the vice president of the Law Society in Jiangsu Province, and the party secretary in Nanjing Intermediate People's Court made an important speech. In particular, President Hu emphasized the importance and role of local scientific and democratic legislation in the process of comprehensively advancing the process of governing the country according to law. In view of the revised Legislation Law in 2015, the local legislature was extended to all municipalities. The legislative work of the NPC has shifted from national legislation to local legislation, and we are greeted with the climax of local legislation which will become a common phenomenon.

Finally, Professor Zhou Youyong, the Standing Member of the Party Committee and Vice President of Southeast University, delivered a speech on behalf of the school. He extended his congratulations to the establishment of the Law Research Society. He extended warm welcome to all the leaders and delegates and briefed the participants on the current situation and goals of Southeast University. He also gave an update on the awarding of the Ph.D. degree in law and the key disciplines in Jiangsu Province from the law school of Southeast University.
