In the evening of November 25, 2016, Professor Feng Xiang in Tsinghua University, one of the most famous jurist in China, came to our school to deliver a speech titled Suffering, Sacrifice, Promise - On Several Basic Issues of Law and Religion for the majority of teachers and students, which was the ninth lecture on the 20th Anniversary of the Restoration of Law of Southeast University and the 10th Anniversary of the Establishment of the law institute. Professor Liu Yanhong, the dean of the law school in Southeast University, made comments for this lecture. More than 200 people listened to the lecture and the atmosphere was very warm.
First of all, Prof. Feng pointed out that since the end of the 1990s, the ethnic and religious issues in China's frontier areas have been very serious. We can not find a solution now, and there is no successful experience in the world. No developed country's experience can be learned, so it is necessary to explore in the context of the new rule of law.
Next, Professor Feng explores the connotations and relationships of suffering, sacrifice and promise in the four Gospels of the New Testament. He believes that these three issues are relatively important and necessary in the law and religion.
The majority of teachers and students immersed in the academic atmosphere created by Professor Feng, enjoying this rare auditory feast. As for Professor Feng Xiang's wonderful lecture, Dean Liu Yanhong gave the high comment.
In the morning of Nov. 26th, Prof. Feng held a meeting entitled Talking about Law, Religion, Literature and Life with law school faculty and graduate students in the conference room of Law School. Professor Feng firstly talked about personal views on scientific research and theoretical methods, and then pointed out that the current legal research should go beyond the scope of traditional law. The law and other disciplines should be combined for cross-disciplinary research. Law should strive to become a strong social sciences subject. Next, Professor Feng made the deep communication with teachers and students on the biggest problem of China's current rule of law; how to guide students to truely contact with China's reality; how to deal with the contradiction between the western formal rule of law and Chinese traditional legal ethics and other issues.
