From 14th to 18th of May, 2018, 27th Conference of United Nations Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ) was held in Vienna, where United Nations Headquarter is settled. The conference on Criminal Countermeasures to Prevent and Combat Cybercrime attracted around 1000 representatives from member states, social organizations and academic structures to attend. Associate Professor Qian Xiaoping of our law school was invited by conference secretariat to attend this conference.
The opening ceremony on 14th of May was hosted by Lotfi Bouchaara, Moroccan Ambassador. Yury Fedotov, Chief Director of UNODC delivered the welcome speech. Then, representatives from 77 countries, representatives of China, representatives of African countries, representatives of Asia-Pacific countries, representatives of Latin America and Canada and representatives of EU countries delivered speeches respectively. In the afternoon, the UN Secretary General Agnio Guterres attended the meeting and gave a keynote speech.
In the durance of the meeting from 15th to 18th of May, participants discussed issues in criminal justice measures to prevent and combat all forms of cybercrime, implementation and application of United Nations standards and norms in crime prevention and criminal justice, trends in world crimes, and new issues and countermeasures in the field of crime prevention and criminal justice. The UN Convention Against Transnational Organized Crime, the United Nations Convention Against Corruption and international instruments for the prevention and suppression of terrorism were approved and implemented.
During the conference, nearly 90 parallel meetings were organized for representatives of international organizations and research groups to discuss the existing problems and to find out possible solutions. Associate Professor Qian Xiaoping participated in several parallel meetings such as The Latest Development and Good Practice of China's Penalty Execution, National Legislation on Cybercrime, Cybercrime and Network Corruption - The Fourth Criminal Revolution and Fight Corruption through Education. Associate Professor Qian Xiaoping had academic exchanges with representatives of IACA, CEB and ACPF and discussed with representatives of Canada, Australia, Poland, Czech Republic and Romania.
The international influence of our law school and the Anti-Corruption Rule of Law Research Center was expanded by this attendance of conference. It is of great significance to promote the construction of “first-class” disciplines.
