On 15th of June, 2018, the international symposium on International Commercial Arbitration Services was held in the Economic Development Zone of Kunming, Yunnan Province. More than 100 people from arbitration circles, industrial and commercial circles, academia and government departments attended the meeting from countries along the“Belt and Road” such as Russia, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, India, and Southeast Asian countries such as Laos, Myanmar, Cambodia, and Malaysia, as well as the domestic legal communities.
Associate Professor Yi Bo of International Law Teaching and Research Office of our law school, was invited to attend the conference and delivered a speech in English to the participants on the topic “Empirical Analysis On Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Arbitration Awards in China”.
In his speech, Associate Prof. Yi Bo used empirical analysis to count all 58 cases of judicial review involving extraterritorial arbitral awards issued by the Supreme People's Court between 2001 and 2016, and pointed out that Only 28 foreign arbitration award cases in China have not been recognized and enforced by the people's court. In addition, Associate Professor Yi Bo also introduced the application of Article 5 of the Convention on the Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Arbitral Awards (New York Convention) in Chinese courts, and the status of strong support by China's judicial authorities for arbitration to participants.
