On the morning of March 31, the Symposium on Commemorating the 130th Anniversary of Mr. Zhou Geng's Birth, hosted by Wuhan University and the China Society of International Law, and supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Chinese People's Institute of Foreign Affairs, was held in the Wuhan University History Museum. Wan Exiang, vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, attended and addressed speech. More than 100 guests from home and abroad and representatives of family members of Mr. Zhou Geng attended the symposium.
Mr. Zhou Geng was a famous jurist, diplomatic historian and educator in China. He was the founder of modern Chinese international law and served as the president of Wuhan University. Mr. Zhou had devoted his life to international legal education, research and practice, and had made outstanding contributions to the development of New China's international law discipline, diplomatic work, legislative work and the development of higher education. The theme of this symposium was The Passage of Torch - The Mission of Chinese International Law Scholars in the New Era. It aimed to promote the noble character of patriotism, and to inherit the lofty demeanor of unselfish and rigorous scholarship. The vast majority of colleagues in the Chinese international law community took Mr. Zhou as an example and a model, and strove to innovate and prosper the theory and practice of international law with Chinese characteristics, to promote the building of a community of human destiny, and to realize the Chinese nation's great rejuvenation of the Chinese dream.
At the symposium, others also addressed speeches who were Mr. Dou Xiankang, President of Wuhan University, Gan Zangchun, Vice President of the Chinese Law Society, Huang Jin, President of the Chinese Society of International Law, Xu Hong, Director of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Law, United Nations International Law Commission, International Law of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Huang Huikang, chairman of the advisory committee, Tao Kaiyuan, vice president of the Supreme People's Court, and Huang Jiefang, director of the ICAO Legal and Foreign Affairs Bureau.
Professor Ouyang Benqi and Lecturer Ye Quan of our law school were invited to participate in the symposium. Together with other delegates, they reviewed Mr. Zhou Geng's academic thoughts and achievements, and conducted in-depth and extensive exchanges.
