Professor Liu Yanhong was invited to participate in the “Judicial Practice and Improvement of the Basic Principles of Criminal Law” High-level Academic Forum

On May 31, 2019, the “Judicial Practice and Improvement of the Basic Principles of Criminal Law” -- Professor Gao Mingxuan’ Academic Thought Seminar, organized by the National Prosecutor's College and the Chinese Society of Criminology,and hosted by the "Chinese Judicial Officer" magazine, was held in Beijing. More than 50 experts and scholars participated in the forum, including the national distinguished senior jurist, Peking University professor Chu Huaizhi, the Supreme People's Procuratorate Deputy Procurator-in-chief Tong Jianming, the Chief Justice Hu Yunteng, the former deputy director of the NPC Law Committee, Lang Sheng, and other participants from Renmin University of China, Beijing. University, Tsinghua University, China University of Political Science and Law, Beijing Normal University, Southeast University, Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences and other institutions. Southeast University Law School Professor Liu Yanhong was invited to participate.


    At the beginning of the forum, the main founder and pioneer of the new Chinese criminal law, Honorary Professor of the Law School of Renmin University of China, and Honorary President of the Institute of Criminal Law of the Chinese Law Society, Gao Mingxuan, gave a lecture entitled "Judicial Practice and Improvement of the Basic Principles of Criminal Law". Professor Gao reviewed the development of  basic principles of Criminal Law and pointed out some problems of basic principles of criminal law to be solved. Professor Gao suggested that the basic principles of criminal law should be strengthened and guide criminal justice.


    Subsequently, the seminar was divided into two units “The Significance of Judicial Guiding and Implementation Mechanism of the Basic Principles of Criminal Law”, and“The Insufficiency and Path of Improving the Basic Principles of Criminal Law”. Professor Liu Yanhong from our law school participated in the former unit. Professor Liu Yanhong made a keynote speech and pointed out that the current national anti-corruption special struggle was in full swing, and that it was particularly important to adhere to the criminal law principle of criminal law.


    This seminar gathered the criminal law scholars of the three generationin China, and provided an opportunity for academic exchanges and discussion on the judicial practice and improvement of the three basic principles of criminal law in China.
