On May 31, 2019, Southeast University Law School welcomed a distinguished guest, Professor Satoshi Hitoshiof University of Tokyo who was a famous Japanese criminal jurist, the former president of the Japanese Criminal Law Society, and the chairman of the Disciplinary Review Committee of the Japan Lawyers Association.
The visiting professor appointment ceremony was hosted by Party Secretary of Law School. Professor Satoshi Hitoshi , Vice President of Southeast University, Professor Zhou Youyong, and Associate Professor Liu Jianli attended the ceremony.
Firstly, Professor Zhou Youyong delivered a speech. He said that Professor Satoshi Hitoshi was a famous Japanese jurist and a senior professor at the University of Tokyo with abundant academic achievements and far-reachingacademic thoughts. It was fortunate to have Professor Satoshi Hitoshi as a visiting professor at Southeast University. The international influence and the promotion of international cooperation between Southeast University and the University of Tokyo would be undoubtedly of great significance.
Subsequently, under the witness of the teachers and students of the law school, President Zhou handed the agreement of employment to Professor Satoshi Hitoshi.
In his acknowledgment, Professor Satoshi Hitoshi expressed his gratitude to Southeast University for invitation and hospitality. He added that it was a matter of pride and gratitude to gain the trust of Southeast University Law School, and the exchange of criminal law between China and Japan in 2017 impressed him. Professor Satoshi Hitoshi said that he would actively promote the exchanges and cooperation between the two universities, and even the exchanges between the Chinese criminal law community and the entire Japanese criminal law community.
On the morning of May 31, 2019, ProfessorSatoshi Hitoshiconducted a seminar on Legal Education and Legal Study in Japan in Southeast University Law School.
Professor Satoshi Hitoshi began with a basic model of Japanese legal education and gave a detailed introduction to the teachers and students. Then, ProfessorSatoshi Hitoshiintroduced the history of the reform of the Japanese judicial examination and the current Japanese judicial examination system for teachers and students. In the free questioning session, Professor Satoshi Hitoshicarefully answered the relevant questions for the teachers and students. He emphasized the importance of jurisprudence in Japanese legal education and the critical spirit of legal study. At the same time, it was affirmative for the active participation and positive thinking of the teachers and students present. The teachers and students benefited a lot from Professor Satoshi Hitoshi’s introduction.
On the afternoon of May 31, 2019, Professor Satoshi Hitoshi delivered a lecture on the theme of Criminal Response to Scientific Misconduct in Southeast University Law School. ProfessorSatoshi Hitoshi introduced the relevant laws and judicial precedents of Japan in detail by taking the case of the recent well-known scientific research cases in Japan and the incident.Subsequently, Professor Satoshi Hitoshiemphasized the administrative sanctions system that he advocated to make up with the penalties. Combined with the above cases, Professor Satoshi Hitoshi explained to everyone that Japan was formulating an administrative fine system.
In the end, Professor Satoshi Hitoshi exchanged ideas with the teachers and students of our law school in the perspective of comparative law and had a heated discussion. Professor Satoshi Hitoshi’s thinking was sharp and the humility and kindness of Professor Satoshi Hitoshi left a deep impression on everyone.
