“The rapid development of artificial intelligence is creating the future, or is it calling the devil?” This question may be answered by the reading club. Sponsored by Southeast University Law School, the Judicial Big Data Research Base of the People's Court, and the Sixth Law Big Data and Artificial Intelligence Reading Association co-organized by the Southeast University Education Foundation.The conference was successfully held on October 25, 2019, at the alumni donation room on the fifth floor of Li Wenzheng Library of Southeast University Jiulonghu Campus. The book club was presided over by Vice President Wang Lusheng, Dr. Chen Jidong from Shanghai University (the translator of the recommended reading list in this issue), and the assistant researcher of Miao Zeyi from our institute. Professor Wang Hao from the School of Civil Engineering, Professor Fu Junjie from the School of Mathematics, Xu Dr. Li Qiang, deputy researcher of Suichuan and CEO of Turing Artificial Intelligence Research Institute (Nanjing) Co., Ltd., talked.
Dr. Chen Jidong first shared with the translation of the background, the scope and definition of robots, the problems of robots in tort liability and the ethical dilemmas faced by robots. Then, Miao Zeyi shared her reading experience on the book from the reader's point of view. Afterwards, the guests discussed the definition and recognition of robots, the future development direction of robots, and the use of robots in warfare. They made wonderful interpretations from different perspectives. Finally, the participating students and teachers asked questions about the robot's tool attributes and human's emotional attitude towards the robot, and got detailed and targeted answers from the guests.
It is reported that the Legal Big Data and Artificial Intelligence Reading Association was initiated by the Judicial Big Data Research Base of the People's Court of Southeast University Law School, aiming to build a platform for interdisciplinary teacher-student exchanges. Since its inception in 2018, it has adhered to the interdisciplinary selection criteria, and has been discussing books such as The Ultimate Algorithm, The Beauty of Mathematics and The Rise of Machines, and has become a well-known academic activity in the whole school.
