On April 1, 2021, the School of Law held a special symposium on the Dual Tutor System for minority students, and discussed how to better protect the study and life of minority students. Mao Huixi, Secretary of the Party Committee of the College, attended and spoke at the meeting, which was chaired by Associate Professor Liu Qichuan, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Vice President of the College. Representatives of teachers of various majors and counselors of undergraduate and graduate students attended this meeting.
At the meeting, Prof. Meng Hongzhi, in connection with his teaching experience, suggested that the biggest obstacle for minority students in the process of integrating into campus learning and living is language communication, so it is necessary to pay attention to students' academic pressure and language communication barriers, and develop practical programs to help them grow and become successful. At the same time, during the education process, students should be actively guided to turn the care and concern of the Party, the state and the school into the motivation of loving the country and the school and studying diligently.
Mr. Yu Lixhen also put forward his suggestions on this issue: firstly, the innovative work for minority students should be based on the implementation of the principle of democracy and equality in the Constitution, and effectively protect the rights and interests of minority students; secondly, the language and traditional culture of minority students should be respected, and students should be cared for in a silent way; thirdly, a broader stage should be provided for minority students, and more opportunities should be given to them to show themselves.
During the meeting, the representatives of minority student tutors also expressed their suggestions and views on the dual tutor system for minorities. For example, in order to improve efficiency and effectiveness, it is suggested to integrate undergraduate tutors, minority student tutors and thesis tutors; to understand the actual difficulties and needs of minority students in depth and work in a targeted way; to improve the enthusiasm of teachers to serve as tutors for minority students through reasonable mechanism and system design, etc.
Finally, Secretary Mao Huixi stressed that it is the key work of the college construction and the need of the development of the Party and the country to light up the ideal light for minority students, illuminate the way forward, build a solid professional foundation and create a healthy learning and living environment for their growth. The college will do its best to provide a harmonious, warm and united learning and living environment for minority students. At the same time, the college will pay more attention to the cultivation of political identity and socialist core values of minority students, and strive to shape high-quality rule of law talents who love the Party and the country, have solid theoretical foundation and outstanding professional ability, and have both virtue and talent.
The meeting was held to point out the direction for further development of minority students' support work. In the next step, the college will carry out the policies and regulations of the Party and the State on ethnic minorities, actively implement the dual tutor system for ethnic minority students, help them establish a correct outlook on life and values, and gradually improve their Chinese language and culture and professional ability in law.
