The Academic Salon for Doctoral Students of Southeast University College of Law aims to provide a platform for doctoral students to learn the right way of research through in-depth communication and interaction, seek inspiration for writing in the intense exchange of ideas, appreciate the charm of knowledge in the strong academic atmosphere, and learn the Way and Technique of dissertation writing together with academic research partners under the guidance of academic experts and elites of the discipline. In the afternoon of March 30, the first academic salon for doctoral students and the 15th academic activity for young scholars of Zhongying were successfully held in the conference room on the fifth floor of the Law School. Professor Ouyang Benqi was invited as the main speaker and Professor Xiong Zhanglin was the moderator of this event, which was an academic feast on the topic of Legal Dissertation Writing Methods. More than 60 master and doctoral students from various fields attended this event.
At the beginning of the event, Prof. Xiong Zhanglin introduced the origin and purpose of the academic salon for doctoral students and grandly introduced the speaker of this session, Prof. Ouyang Benqi.
Professor Ouyang Benqi firstly introduced the importance of legal dissertation writing to legal research and the important and difficult points in writing, then, combined with his own academic writing experience, he launched the lecture from four aspects: correct approach to writing method, topic selection, argumentation and presentation. Professor Ouyang emphasized that the method of writing legal dissertation is to serve the content of legal dissertation writing, the method without content is empty, and the content without method is messy.
On the topic selection, Professor Ouyang introduced that problem consciousness is reflected in the following four aspects: discovering the problem - judging the authenticity of the problem - judging the importance of the problem --Analysis and problem solving is a four-step process. Reading more books, participating in academic discussions, thinking more and writing more are the main ways to develop problem awareness. In terms of argumentation, Prof. Ouyang discussed in detail three parts: preparation of argumentation, outline, and argumentative ideas, including literature reading and review, outline design, argumentative tools, and citation strategies. In terms of expression, Prof. Ouyang emphasized that academic writing is to convince people with reason rather than move people with emotion, and that academic writing should deal with the relationship between spoken and written language, and pursue letter, elegance, and elegance. The abstract and introduction of academic papers play a key role in attracting readers to read and showing the level of writing.
After the lecture, students asked Prof. Ouyang Benqi and Prof. Xiong Zhanglin questions on whether students need to pursue hot issues in academic writing, how to view the relationship between the topic of qualification dissertation and the topic of dissertation, the limitation of deepening research in specific research direction and the arrangement of content of academic writing breaking and standing, and the two teachers gave detailed answers with their own writing experience and academic knowledge.
At the end of the event, Prof. Xiong Zhanglin summarized the salon. Prof. Xiong emphasized that writing is the first element in academic research in law, and publication is the source of writing motivation. Academic writing is a growth process, and it is inevitably difficult to start, but postgraduates should overcome such difficulties, write actively, dare to publish, and gradually realize their own academic research ideals.
