On April 21, 2021, from 9:00 to 11:30, the pre-defense and opening of our doctoral students were successfully held in the Law Clinic on the fifth floor of the Law School. The pre-defense was held to strengthen the quality management of the dissertation, which deeply implemented the spirit of the Measures for the Whole Process Management of the Quality of Postgraduate Dissertation of Southeast University College of Law and the Working Methods of the Steering Group for the Quality of Postgraduate Dissertation of Southeast University College of Law. The defense and the opening of the dissertation were chaired by Prof. Meng Hongzhi of Southeast University Law School, and Prof. Wang Jinyuan, Prof. Gong Xianghe, Prof. Yu Lishen, Prof. Liu Lianjun, Associate Prof. Chen Daoying, Prof. Xiong Zhanglin and Associate Prof. Liu Qichuan were the members. Doctoral students of constitutional and administrative law, Qing Li and Song Jiao, successfully passed the pre-defense and their dissertations entered the formal defense. Wang Jia, a doctoral student of constitutional and administrative law, successfully passed the opening of the dissertation and entered the formal writing stage of the dissertation.
The pre-defense and the opening of the dissertation are the procedures clearly stipulated in the Measures for the Whole Process Management of the Quality of Postgraduate Dissertation of Southeast University College of Law. Under the situation that the epidemic prevention and control has been stabilized, the participants strictly maintain the social distance and implement the offline pre-defense and opening of the dissertation according to the management rules and regulations of the university. The effectiveness of the pre-defense and question opening was greatly enhanced by face-to-face offline communication.
The pre-defense and question opening were firstly introduced by the chairman, Prof. Meng Hongzhi, who introduced the process and requirements of the pre-defense and question opening, and then the participating doctoral students reported the main ideas, research developments, innovations and dilemmas encountered in their articles, and then the teachers asked questions one by one, pointing out the problems of the dissertation or the outline of the question opening and suggesting the direction of further thinking or modification needed for the dissertation, and finally the students answered. The pre-defense and the opening of the dissertation were open to the students, and the active participation of the students added a strong seminar atmosphere to the offline pre-defense and the opening of the dissertation.
Teaching and educating people is the most basic duty of teachers, and improving the quality of talent cultivation is the most important task. The College attaches great importance to the guidance of students' dissertations, and this pre-defense and opening of the dissertation is the in-depth embodiment of the comprehensive promotion of the discipline construction of the College under the guidance of the principle of teaching and research.
