In the afternoon of June 5, 2022, to celebrate the 120th anniversary of the founding of Southeast University, the New Law Development Forum and Alumni Work (Development Fund) Conference hosted by Southeast University Law School was held in Jiulong Lake Hotel of Southeast University.
People's Procuratorate of Jiangbei New District, Nanjing Jiangning District People's Procuratorate, Nanjing Jiangning District Public Security Bureau, Nanjing Qinhuai District People's Procuratorate, Nanjing Yuhuatai District People's Court, Jiangning Economic Development Zone People's Procuratorate, Jiangning Economic Development Zone People's Court and other practical departments, lawyers from major law firms in Nanjing and leaders from functional departments of Southeast University, alumni and teachers of Southeast University Law School The conference was attended by more than one hundred people in total.
The conference was divided into two stages. The first stage was the New Law Development Forum, and the second stage was the Alumni Work (Development Fund) Conference of the Law School in 2022.
Phase I: New Law Development Forum
This stage was hosted by Mao Huixi, Secretary of the Party Committee of Southeast University College of Law, who extended a warm welcome to all the leaders and guests.
Gao Liguo, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Secretary of the Discipline Inspection Commission of Southeast University, extended a warm welcome to all the guests. Science is famous in the world, talent is new every day, first of all, Secretary Gao looked back on the 120 years of Southeast University's history, always with the motherland in mind, with the world in mind, self-improvement and the pursuit of excellence for scientific progress and national rejuvenation. The Law School has explored a special path to cultivate new legal talents in a strong university of science and technology, among which engineering law, traffic law, medical law and judicial data have become the brand disciplines and advantageous specialties of Southeast University in the field of law nationwide, and on On the basis of this, Southeast University has formed a perfect talent cultivation system and has the disciplinary advantages to match the construction of double first-class, becoming one of the important bases for cultivating legal talents in China. Finally, Secretary Gao emphasized that the innovation and development of Southeast University Law School in recent years could not be achieved without the support of various institutions, cooperative practice units and alumni, and that the Law School Development Foundation has injected a strong impetus for discipline construction and talent cultivation. On the occasion of the double A of Dongda University, Southeast University Law School is also standing at a new historical starting point. We hope that colleagues from sister institutions and alumni will continue to support and care about the development of Southeast University Law School. We also wish this conference a great success.
On behalf of the faculty and students, Professor Ouyang Benqi, Dean of the School of Law, expressed his warm welcome and heartfelt thanks to the leaders, alumni and friends who came to the meeting, and expressed three points of thoughts. Firstly, Dean Ouyang reviewed the history of the School of Law and thanked the two previous deans, Professor Zhou Youyong and Professor Liu Yanhong, for leading the faculty and students to excel and work hard, and creating a southeastern model for the construction of law disciplines in China. Secondly, Dean Ouyang introduced the Law School's new cross-fertilization law discipline, introduced the basic situation of the Law School in terms of talent cultivation and scientific research from three aspects: cross-cutting, team-based and practical, and listed the big platforms, big projects and big influence of the Law School. Finally, Dean Ouyang looked forward to the new journey of the law school, saying, Looking back on the long history of the law discipline of nearly 100 years, the 27 years of spring and autumn, and the 16 years of accumulation and development, we have both pride and mission, and we have to be both proud and practical. In the future, we will beat the drum to promote the conquest, oar the sail, give full play to our strengths, make up for the shortcomings, and make unremitting efforts to build a first-class law discipline as soon as possible!
Peng Yue, Vice Dean of Nanjing University Law School, said that the two universities share the same origin and hope to continue to develop brotherhood and cooperation in the 21st century, and praised the advancement, pragmatism and great feasibility of Southeast University's new law discipline construction. Dean Peng pointed out that the intersection of law and other disciplines is a question that needs to be considered during the construction and development of the new law discipline, in order to be closer to the goal of accelerating the construction of philosophical and social sciences with Chinese characteristics, in accordance with the idea of being based in China, drawing on foreign experience, digging into history, grasping the present time, and caring about the ideal future of mankind, and making efforts to build a philosophy of socialism with Chinese characteristics as proposed by General Secretary Xi Jinping at the Conference on Philosophy and Society. The goal of philosophical socialism with Chinese characteristics. At the same time, it was emphasized that the important direction of the construction of the new legal science is to build a new academic system and discourse system under its framework, which is what everyone here needs to work together in the future.
Chen Guanghua, Vice Dean of the Law School of Hohai University, firstly congratulated Southeast University on its 120th anniversary. Dean Chen proposed that the new law discipline should include cross-fertilization in three aspects. The first is the intersection within disciplines, including the intersection within the discipline of law. The second is the intersection within the faculty. In this regard, Dean Chen praised the achievements of Southeast University School of Law in this area, which provides a reference for all schools to develop a new law discipline. The third is the cross-fertilization between on-campus and off-campus, and he emphasized that the cultivation of legal talents requires the participation of experts and scholars from the judicial practice community outside the university.
Gao Zhihong, Dean of College of Humanities and Social Sciences of Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, believes that the construction of new law disciplines should focus on the following three aspects: first, why to develop new law disciplines. Second, how to develop the new law discipline. Third, how is the relationship between the new law discipline and traditional disciplines. Dean Gao said that new problems in the process of rule of law need to be solved by new disciplines, and thus efforts should be made to promote the intersection of law disciplines with other disciplines, and at the same time, the combination of new law disciplines with traditional disciplines should also be emphasized.
Wang Yanli, Dean of Nanjing Audit University School of Law, praised the level of construction of the new law discipline in Southeast University School of Law and said that the new law talent should have the following qualities: first, a complex knowledge structure; second, applied skills; third, innovative research thinking; fourth, the ability to use the means and methods of information technology; fifth, an international perspective and vision; sixth, a high professional ethics and family Sixth, high professional ethics and family sentiment. Finally, Dean Wang said that it is the common duty and task of all law schools to cultivate new legal talents, and he hoped to further strengthen mutual learning and communication in the future.
Yi Jiaqi, Dean of School of Law and Politics of Nanjing University of Technology, highly praised the cross-disciplinary construction of Dongda Law School and offered his own understanding of the construction of the new law discipline. He said that, compared with traditional law disciplines, the construction of the new law discipline should break the traditional model of taking the national judicial system as the basic reference. As for the consideration of the road of cross-fertilization, on the one hand, the development of any university should be combined with the mainstream development of the society and the changes of the mainstream social problems, on the other hand, it should be combined with the resources and discipline characteristics of the university where it is located. At the same time, Dean Yi suggested that the constraints of traditional legal evaluation mechanism on the development of new legal disciplines still exist, and it is urgent to discuss how to further expand the new legal education so that it can be in the forefront of legal education.
Bian Level, Director of Administrative Appeals Division of Jiangsu Provincial Department of Justice, pointed out that Southeast University Law School has conducted a lot of cooperation exploration with our practice department, including some cooperation on legislative projects. We hope to have better cooperation and exchange with Southeast University Law School in the future.
Zhou Lianyong, director of Jiangsu Boshioda Law Firm, pointed out that the cooperation between Southeast University Law School and the practice unit can be summarized in eight words: interactive cooperation, mutual win-win progress. He further pointed out that in the future, the practice unit and the teaching unit should continue to expand the consensus in talent cultivation and discipline construction and find fruitful solutions. Mr. Zhou put forward the requirements of six elements and six paths for law students. Law students should have a good voice in their work, a good taste in their life, and a good feeling in their conduct. The whole life cycle of a law student can be summarized as asking the way, catching the way, leading the way, paving the way, making the way and showing the way.
Huang Deqing, president of Nanjing Yuhuatai District People's Court, discussed the development of the new discipline of jurisprudence from three aspects. First, legal ideals are formed in the initial stage of legal education, which is very important for the legal profession. The second is about the cultivation of juridical thinking. The legal thinking formed in the study of legal theory still has to be refined by practical activities. The third is the application of legal methods. Legal scholarship is often inappropriate in practice due to inexperience, and the cultivation of legal methods should be emphasized in legal education.
Pan Wei, member of the sub-party group and vice president of Jiangbei New Area People's Court of Nanjing, said that he felt the importance of cooperation between universities and practical departments during the work process, and hoped that the completion of the postgraduate practice base of Jiangbei New Area Court could deepen the cooperation between the two sides.
Xia Zhiyang, a special committee member of Jiangning Economic Development Zone People's Court, discussed his feelings during the docking and exchange process with the internship students of Southeast University Law School, and appreciated the spirit and courage of the law school students in overcoming difficulties and persevering.
Zhang Songbo, a judge of the Administrative Division of the Jiangsu High People's Court, expressed his gratitude to Southeast University for their education and training. He pointed out that the handling of difficult cases in practice is often interdisciplinary, and such talents with interdisciplinary skills are more needed in practice, and he emphasized that the cultivation of talents can be more problem-oriented.
Zhou Meng, a lawyer from PCG Law Firm, pointed out that the lawyer market is a broad employment surface for graduates and the setting of practical courses in legal education work is very important.
Zhang Li, director of the political department of Nanjing Qinhuai District People's Procuratorate, expressed that Qinhuai Procuratorate and Southeast University Law School have been cooperating for many years, and the Law School has provided a lot of help and support to the Procuratorate through attachment and expert argumentation, while the Procuratorate has also provided a platform for law students to practice.
Lu Jinyu, Deputy Director of the Academic Affairs Office of Southeast University, made a brief report on the achievements of Southeast University in cross-disciplinary talent training in recent years. He said that Southeast University has been promoting the reform of talent cultivation mode in recent years, and has achieved many excellent results in the cultivation of cross-disciplinary talents. Secondly, Director Lu affirmed the work of the Law School in talent cultivation and highly praised the development and achievements of the Law School in cross-talent cultivation. The path of curriculum integration and mutual construction of disciplines explored by the Law School has provided profound reference for the talent cultivation of the university. Finally, he expressed that the law school could offer more high-quality general courses and more dual-degree training methods for law and other disciplines, so as to cultivate more composite talents with strong foundation, cross-curricular and innovation.
Wang Lusheng, Deputy Director of Social Science Department of Southeast University, said that the overall research level of the law school has made great progress and achieved great results in acquiring big projects and big platforms. Among the rapid development of law disciplines, the development of new law disciplines is the most prominent segment, and the law school deserves its leading position in the national research of new law disciplines. Director Wang pointed out that the new in the new law discipline means that it is different from the small crossover within the traditional law discipline, but requires law students to break out of the traditional comfort zone and take the road of building a new law discipline with a large crossover and integration of literature, science, engineering and medicine.
Li Jian, secretary of the Party Committee of Jinzhi, emphasized that the development of new law discipline requires the integration and cooperation among enterprises, colleges, schools and students, to bridge the gap in the whole process of college education, to integrate legal theory and practice after entering the society, and to integrate law and different disciplines in the development of business. This spirit of whole process, great crossover and integration is the key to Southeast University's leading position in Chinese jurisprudence.
Gong Xianghe, the executive director of the Human Rights Research Institute of Southeast University, said that Southeast University has taken the foresight to cultivate talents of new law disciplines, taken a shortcut to cross-disciplinary development, and relied on the strong disciplines of Southeast University for development, and so far the social recognition of Southeast Law has been greatly increased. The Human Rights Education and Training Base, as the first national liberal arts research base of the university, is sufficient to show the special status of Southeast Law and the path of transcendence of its characteristics.
From the rich composition of the participants and the development experience of the law school in recent years, Lu Lu, the doctoral supervisor of Southeast University Law School, pointed out that the mystery of Southeast University Law School's success in building a new liberal arts and cultivating new talents lies in the diversity of disciplines. She emphasized that no discipline in today's society can be confined to the ivory tower of the profound and obscure, but only the integration of theory and practice can truly make the discipline shine.
Phase II: Law School Alumni Work (Development Fund) Meeting 2022
This session was chaired by Liu Qichuan, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Southeast University College of Law.
Gao Ge, Director of the Alumni Work (Development Fund) Committee of Southeast University College of Law, gave a report on the work of the Law School's practice teaching and alumni (development fund) with the keynote of From the Past to the Future. The key word of the new law school is practice and the requirements for the cultivation of talents in universities. Southeast University College of Law has combined internal and external resources to make up for the weaknesses in various aspects such as legal practice, moot court and opening defense. At present, there are 37 cooperative units as practice bases under the management of the university and the signing ceremony has been completed, and the part-time tutor system has been improved together with the cooperative enterprises, and the professional practice of students has been fruitful. Secondly, in terms of alumni work, the law school has assisted the Wuxi Alumni Association to establish local law chapters in recent years, and is preparing to establish local law chapters in Beijing, Suzhou and Hangzhou. The Nanjing and Shanghai law chapters have made significant achievements in fighting against epidemics and donating to alumni in need, and assisting alumni in employment and other issues. Finally, Director Gao Ge reported in detail the income and expenditure of the Alumni Development Fund from 2020 to 2022, and expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the alumni who donated enthusiastically.

Vice Dean Xiong Zhanglin of Southeast University College of Law read out the list of newly-appointed part-time mentors, and Dean Ouyang Benqi awarded the appointment letters to the newly-appointed part-time mentors.
