On the morning of Nov. 23, 2022, Zhang Ao, Liu Hao and Tong Yunfeng, PhD students in criminal law, successfully defended their dissertations. The dissertations of the three doctoral students strictly followed the Measures for the Whole Process Management of the Quality of Postgraduate Dissertations of Southeast University College of Law, and went through six stages: submission of the opening report, formal opening, submission of the first draft and revision, preliminary examination in the institution, submission for examination and revision, pre-defense, etc., and finally entered the stage of formal defense.

Professor Sun Guoxiang from Nanjing University Law School was the chairman of the defense committee, Professor Cai Daotong from Nanjing Normal University Law School, Professor Ouyang Benqi, Professor Chen Hongbing, Professor Li Chuan and Professor Qian Xiaoping from NUIST were the members of the defense committee, and Associate Professor Liang Yunbao from NUIST was the secretary of the defense committee.

After the chairman of the defense committee announced the defense process and specific rules, the defense officially started. The respondents defended in turn, analyzed the purpose of the selected topic and the ideas of writing. The defense committee was serious and responsible, and made detailed comments and suggestions on the thesis. The defense committee considered that the three doctors had strong academic ability, their chosen topics had important theoretical and practical significance, and their dissertations were reasonable in structure and clear in thought, which were in line with the Regulations and Annotated Style for Writing Dissertations for Postgraduates (Master/Doctorate) of Southeast University College of Law, and suggested further improvement of the dissertations on the basis of the revisions proposed by the defense teachers. With the strict implementation of the recusal system, the five members of the defense committee discussed and voted by secret ballot and unanimously agreed that Zhang Ao, Liu Hao and Tong Yunfeng passed the defense of the doctoral dissertation and recommended that the Academic Degree Evaluation Committee of Southeast University should confer the doctoral degree on them.

In order to strengthen the management of dissertation quality, the Law School of Southeast University issued the Measures for the Whole Process Management of Dissertation Quality of Postgraduates in the Law School of Southeast University and the Working Measures of the Steering Group for Dissertation Quality of Postgraduates in the Law School of Southeast University on March 18, 2020. The College attaches great importance to the work of talent cultivation. Next, the College will further strengthen the construction of quality assurance and talent cultivation capacity of postgraduates, deeply promote the reform of postgraduate education and teaching, and continuously improve the quality of postgraduate cultivation.
