At the beginning of the meeting, Ouyang Benqi, Dean of the Law School of Southeast University, delivered a speech. Dean Ouyang Benqi expressed his sincere thanks to all the leaders and guests, and introduced the current development situation of the School from the aspects of School overview, faculty, academic research, talent cultivation and so on. Dean Ouyang Benqi said that since the establishment of the School of Law in 2006, under the leadership of Professor Zhou Youyong and Professor Liu Yanhong, the discipline has changed from weak to strong, and has ranked the top in the fifth round of the national university discipline assessment. In terms of faculty construction, the School has a youthful and internationalised faculty integrating high-end leaders and young outstanding talents. In terms of academic research, the School of Law has achieved excellent results based on the 1+12 research platform, and is the only law school in China that has won two national key research and development projects. Liu Qichuan, Secretary of the Party Committee of Law School of Southeast University, and Ouyang Benqi, Dean of Law School of Southeast University, presented the appointment certificates of career planning instructors to all the leaders and guests.
Gu Aiping, Deputy Director of Jiangsu Provincial Department of Justice, mentioned that as a legal person, when planning a legal career, one should always maintain the love and respect for the law, and endeavour to create justice and harmony for the society with professionalism and rigour. Deputy Director Gu Aiping put forward three suggestions to the students: first, the heart of the country. Being in the new era of socialism with Chinese characteristics, which is carrying on the past, carrying on the past, and having great development and potential, we should shoulder the responsibility and mission given to young people in the new era while realising our personal ideals. Secondly, we should keep our conscience. Law is not only a science, but also a responsibility, not only a rule, but also a trust. I hope that students will use the strings of the law to play the music of justice, and use the flame of wisdom to illuminate the desire of mankind for fairness. Thirdly, refine your skills. Sun Yong, Director of the Fourth Prosecution Department of Jiangsu Provincial People's Procuratorate, shared his four feelings since he started his career from his personal professional experience. The first is not to forget the original intention. Students should keep in mind the mission of solving practical social problems and maintaining social justice. Second, continuous learning. Director Sun pointed out that law is a special social science, with a very fast frequency of knowledge updating, therefore, continuous learning is a lifelong subject for legal professionals. Third, thick accumulation. Taking a public prosecutor as an example, Mr Sun shared his own experience of improving his listening, reading and writing skills, explaining the need to continuously accumulate professional skills when engaging in law-related professions. Fourthly, to be realistic. Director Sun reminded students to base themselves on society and reality, constantly update their knowledge base, integrate into social life, and understand the people's most simple pursuit of justice. Finally, Director Sun shared his own thoughts as a member of the legal professional community: to reach, according to the traditional Chinese saying, the law is safe in the world, and morality is the heart of the people; to be poor, according to the ancient Roman jurists said, honest life, do no harm to others.
Yang Zhaohui, a third-level senior judge of the Jiangsu Higher People's Court, shared his views on the legal profession in the light of his own work and study experience. Judge Yang believed that one gets what one ploughs for, and while it is hard work to pursue a career in law, with the development of society and the penetration of the legal profession in all levels and fields of society, the employment prospects for law students are very broad. Judge Yang wished all the students of the Law School to get their ideal careers and hoped that they would uphold the original intention, keep the bottom line of the law, and make due contribution to the society as a law student.
Yan Chang, Procurator General of Gulou District People's Procuratorate, firstly recognised the College's practice of moving the guidance of career planning forward. Secondly, Procurator General Yan pointed out that career planning guidance should not only let students go well and steadily, but also let them go far, and shared his own three points of experience in this regard: firstly, the university period should cultivate the sentiment of compassion, cultivate the professional ethics and their own resonance in jurisprudence; secondly, cultivate the habit of lifelong learning, not only the learning of legal knowledge, but also the learning of economics, finance, history and other knowledge. endeavour to improve their own abilities and become high-level legal talents; third, have a pattern of the most humble and sincere, and learn how to deal with failures, frustrations, and other people's fame and fortune while constantly refining their abilities, and cultivate excellent qualities.
Hu Binhua, Prosecutor General of Jiangning District People's Procuratorate, shared his thoughts on career planning from his own experience. Firstly, career planning is a process of matching personal conditions and career vision, students should learn how to adjust and enrich the existing conditions to achieve their best career development; secondly, career planning should be carried out as early as possible, students can get to know themselves more clearly through the career planning course; lastly, Procurator General Hu believes that the way of career planning guidance can be improved. Finally, Prosecutor General Hu believes that the way of career planning guidance can be improved, career planning can be a continuous trial and error process, the importance of practical experience should be emphasised, and students should choose the most suitable career for themselves through internships.
Lv Fudong, director of the Research Department of Jiangsu Law Society, based on the field of legal research, put forward two suggestions: first, adhere to the leadership of the Party, adhere to the correct political direction, the ideological and political civilisation as the foundation of legal research, the ideological position as the soul of legal research, based on the national and provincial conditions as the source of legal research; secondly, deepen the investigation and research, and promote the transformation of the research results, which requires students to set up a sense of the problem, play the role of practice, and at the same time, students should choose the most important career through internships. This requires students to establish problem awareness, play the role of practice, and adhere to the theory to guide practice. In addition, Mr Lv also hoped that the students would set up clear goals, cultivate the quality of tenacity, and lay a good foundation for their career development.
Li Huadong, director of Jiangsu Longpan Law Firm, pointed out that the main body of career planning is students. Director Li then shared the six expectations for students from the perspective of a law firm: upward mobility, self-confidence, independence, determination, efficiency and quality. Director Li pointed out that graduates should have the ability to think and act independently, never look ahead when making decisions, and at the same time, they should get rid of procrastination and improve their professional ability and practical experience to better adapt to the development of society.
Gu Xin, Deputy Director of Student Affairs Office and Director of Career Guidance Centre of Southeast University, affirmed the innovative initiative of career planning mentorship in the Law School from three aspects: fitting the national strategy, responding to the needs of the industry, and building the whole chain of employment. At the same time, Director Gu took international trade as an example, encouraging students to open up the international vision, pay attention to the intersection and integration of disciplines, and further broaden the employment channels.
Finally, Liu Qichuan, Secretary of Party Committee of Law School of Southeast University, summarised the meeting.
