On the afternoon of 5 June 2024, the 16th Digital Law Youth Academic Salon was successfully held in Room 516 of the Law Clinic of the Law School of Southeast University. The salon was hosted by Associate Professor Xu Minchuan, and Professor Wang Lusheng, Director of the Social Sciences Office, Associate Professor Yang Jie, Associate Professor Ren Danli, Teacher Bi Wenxuan, Teacher Gong Shanyou of the School of Law, and students from the Judicial Big Data Base all participated in this academic salon activity.

Sun Yu, a PhD student of grade 22, analysed the topic of Legal Protection of Algorithmic Consumers in the Digital Era from a unique perspective, introduced the connotation of algorithmic consumers, the current research situation, the risk of rights and interests, the necessity of protection, and the path of protection, etc. Combined with the extraterritorial practice, he argued around the technological mechanism, the logic of practice, and the jurisprudential proof of the algorithmic consumer, and finally constructed a scheme for the legal protection of algorithmic consumers in the digital era. The final proposal of legal protection of algorithmic consumers in the digital era will be constructed.

The reviewer, Associate Professor Xu Minchuan, affirms the comprehensiveness and normativity of the article, puts forward concrete suggestions for the construction of the protection model and scheme, and makes further requirements for the argumentation of the specificity of the consumer perspective. Mr Gong Shan-You considered the necessity of limiting the title to the digital age debatable, and suggested refining the legal protection. Associate Professor Ren Danli expressed her views on the controversial issues discussed, proposing a jurisprudential exploration of the new perspective of algorithmic consumers. Professor Wang Lusheng proposed a refinement of the concept of algorithmic consumer and elaborated on the risks and challenges that the existing innovation of the article may encounter. The rest of the faculty and students expressed their views and explored specific issues involving algorithms, such as the combination of soft and hard law governance, big data killing, dark mode, addictive behaviour, and so on.

Zhang Zeyu, a 23rd grade master's student, discussed the topic of Review and Reflection on Substantial Similarity Determination Methods in Plagiarism of Game Rules, focusing on the copyright protection of game rules, reviewing the existing domestic and international judicial practice and doctrinal research on substantial similarity judgement, proposing a path to improve the substantial similarity determination methods in response to the many challenges of the current protection of game rules, such as the lack of uniform standards and so on, and Emphasis was placed on balancing the interests of creators and audiences, and promoting the continuous innovation and development of the industry.

In the evaluation session, the reviewer, Mr. Bi Wenxuan, suggested to further deepen the theoretical discussion on the issue and strengthen the in-depth dialogue with the academia, so as to ensure that the proposed recommendations are not only of practical guidance significance, but also can be based on the profound legal theory foundation, so that the research can go beyond the nature of a guidebook. Liaojia Shen, a master's student, shared her views on the article from both macro and micro perspectives, and hoped that the article would strengthen the argumentation for copyrightability. Professor Lusheng Wang expressed his expectation for the refinement of the definition of the rules of the game. The rest of the students and faculty members engaged in heated discussions on related hot topics.

The Digital Law Youth Academic Salon provides an academic platform for students to exchange ideas and collide wisdom, and the teacher-student seminar provides rich ideas and directions for future in-depth research, and it also plays an important role in promoting the digital transformation of the field of jurisprudence and cultivating legal talents in the new era.
